goodbye xm
Shortly ago I canceled my xm radio account. For some time i was trying to find a reason to keep it. I have to say, i do not miss it at all.
- Loss of Signal - for some reason over the past 2 - 3 weeks the signal in my area has gotten much worse. Calling tech support, they said, just give it time. I asked the CS Rep who is going to pay for me service, during this time.
- Commercials - At the start of my xm use you rarely heard commercials. Now, that is all you hear. The worse part about it is, you hear the same commercials on every channel.
- Are you really hearing something different? You hear the same music and the same news as you would hear on fm or am.
- Direct TV - With our tv package i have access to almost all of the same stations i heard with my account. Plus it sounds a lot better on my home stereo.
- Monthly fee - while it was not breaking the bank, i needed to look back on what i was getting for the price. I am not getting anything special that i can not get thru other media outputs.
- Podcasts - I am a techie person and i can not find on either fm or xm a tech show that i like. I follow about 10 tech podcasts and this keeps me updated on the latest news.
While I did like xm radio, i do not see any major changes to terrestrial radio. You have commercials, same music and the same news. Why pay for something you can get for almost free.

Are you sure you had XM? You didn’t describe anything that sounds like the XM service I have!
